Printed at the Enquirer Office, 1910.

A collection of Witherspoon Genealogy. Contains: 1) this book; 2) a hand written manuscript entitled, "Genealogy of the Witherspoon Family" (written by Florence Pegues Witherspoon in 1890); 3) a hand written manuscript entitled, "1670 Genealogy of the Witherspoon Family 1890."  (written by Thomas Dwight Witherspoon, Louisville Kentucky, copied by Lottie Ingram Witherspoon.); and 4) a 12 page letter to the Rev. John Knox Witherspoon of Camden SC (from Dr. J. R. Witherspoon answering questions about his grandfather John Witherspoon, a President of Princeton and a signor of the Declaration of the Independence). The letter, is dated 1835.  Dr. James Ramsey Witherspoon was a student at Princeton in 1792 and is noted for having worked with the President John Witherspoon assisting in writing his weekly sermons for the Princeton Presbyterian Church. In later years he referred to the older Witherspoon as his 'venerated friend and perceptor'; see Looney, Princetonians, 1791-1794: A Biographical Dictionary, p. 464-465).

Also included are many ephemera items, such as original obituary notices, Witherspoon news clippings, hand written letters, notes on early Witherspoon possessions, hand written genealogical notes.  There is also a three page genealogical letter on the Ingram family and Witherspoons written in 1901 (also discussing American ancestors in the Revolution (Maj James Witherspoon), etc in North and South Carolina, Tenn. Alabama, etc).   The book has 229 pages portraits, coat of arms, 24 cm.  Signed on end page: "Presented to Miss Pauline Witherspoon, 1912" The binding of the book is poor and has been taped.  The genealogical coat of arms is separated from the binding, but present (someone has also drawn a copy of the coat of arms on another page ~100 years ago).  Quite a wealth of material!
