Matthew Poole (1624-1679) was an English Nonconformist theologian.  He is best known for this work, Synopsis Criticorum Biblicorum, where he presents the view of 150 biblical critics (Catholic, Rabbinical, etc.)  Poole attempted to bring together all that had been written to illustrate the Scripture throughout the ages. -DNB. An important early English (Puritan) source of religious commentary.   "An elaborate and much-esteemed work, on which the author spent ten years.  It consolidates with great skill and conciseness all the Critici Sacri of the London edition into one continued comment, besides many valuable additions from the authors of note..."
