Dioscorides's 1st-century A.D. materia medica remained authoritative into the early modern era.  Today the Greek physician is considered the father of pharmacology for his work in herbal medicine.  Provenance: From the library of Nicolas Yemeniz (1783-1871) one of the great French bibliophiles of the late 19th-century.
