The New Light, Or, Discourses On The Christian Church, On The Evils Of Sectarianism...
Jason Darrow
Covington: Printed for the Author at the Office of the "Licking Valley Register", 1846
[Kentucky Imprint; Christian/Scientific Racism] Bound contemporary in full calf, with red leather spine label. xii, 480 pages ; 19 cm. Subtitle: "and on the true manner of becoming Christians. : Also dissertations on infants, idiots, and pagans: together with inquiries into the origin of the Negro race, essays on abolitionism, Free-Masonry, Odd-Fellowship, &c." Includes rather creative views on the "origin of the Negro race," which Darrow associates with the "corruption of the blood" caused by Africans mingling with "beasts," such as "Orangutans, Outangs, baboons." Darrow goes on to conclude that it is therefore moral for Christians to own slaves because of origins of negros and their beast-like state. A striking pro-slavery argument that combines the peculiarities of Southern American Christianity with scientific racism.
