Interesting provenance: Purchased by a gift from John Boylston (1709–1795). "Boylston was son of the Dr. Zabdiel Boylston and first cousin of John Adam's mother. He had been a merchant in Boston and is depicted in John Adam's diary in the 1760's as a lively but somewhat affected conversationalist (Diary and Autobiography, 1:293–294). By 1771 he had taken up residence in London, and he remained in England for the rest of his life."- Adams Papers. Adams maintained correspondence with him throughout his life.  An early inscription states that Mr. John Boylston (who died in London) "made a present to Mary Beaman of Boyston."  Mary Beaman (Boylston) (1751-1813) was the daughter of Richard Boyston and the wife of Rev. Maj. Ezra Beaman (West Boylston, Mass).  Additional genealogical information states that Mary was the great, great grandmother to Arthur and Mabel, Eunice; great, great great grandmother to Alice Eunice Whitney.  Includes another generation of Whitney relations.
