L'armee Francaise: Ses Uniformes, Son Armement, Son Equipement. (103 Planches)

Lucien Rousselot

Paris : Les Procedes Dorel; L. Camus Villejuif (1956-1978)

[Costumes militaires France. 1720-1867: Association Copy, from the artist, Russell Gammage's personal library] 103 folders (of 106).  Mixed set.  Includes planches 1-106.  Almost complete, but for the following folders: 6, 39, 54, 59.  There is a double of #36.  Housed in a clamshell box.  Colored plates.  Some folders have minor stains to the covers from Gammage, who used them as a reference in his workshop. Some of the folders have very minor foxing.

The author, Rousselot was a French military artist.  His work set the standard for the field in its brilliant attention to detail and vividness.

Our collection came from the library of the English sculptor and artist, Russell Gammage. Gammage's signature and stamp are on some of the folders.  Gammage's work is in the Imperial War Museum and he created sculptures for various other museums.  He created Rose Miniatures (1953-1983) with his wife and created some of the earliest war gaming miniatures.  Fusilier Miniatures later bought the business and Gammage's molds were used by John Eden and later by Amazon miniatures.  No doubt, this work helped Gammage create incredibly accurate sculpted figurines.  I later purchased this work from a retired Colonel and Professor at the Army College, who enjoyed wargaming.
