Rubbing, edge wear.  lvi, 330, [2]  p.   Title pages somewhat soiled.  Light, occasional marginal foxing.  Marginal tear on p. 281-2.  First English translation of De origine mali.  Subtitle: "tending to ... vindicate ... the author's principles against the objections of Bayle, Leibnitz, the author of A Philosophical Enquiry concerning Human Liberty..."  ESTC  T133421.  Early stamp of John Pipon, with his signature (1802) on title.  Later inscription to WA West, 1826, presented to W. Barrows, 1849.  Later ownership chain to 1962.   Pipon (Boston, 1762-1821) was a Reverend in Taunton Mass.  He graduated from Harvard in 1792.
