Provenance: Bookplate and blind stamps of Shirburn Castle.  Bookplate of Hon. Lt. General G.L. Parker (Militar[y] Collection of the Hon[orable] L[ieutenan]t Gen[era]l G[eorge] L[ane] Parker.)  Gen. Parker (1724–1791) was the second son of the 2nd Earl and upon his death his collection of military books was added to the main Macclesfield stock in Shirburn Castle (ca. 1791). (Cf. Libraries and founders of libraries, Chap. X, p. 325 ff).  He served in the House of Commons between 1769 and 1780.  Parker joined the army in the 1st Foot Guards and was lieutenant and captain in 1749 and captain and lieutenant-colonel in 1755. He became Colonel in 1762 and Major-general in 1770. From 1773 to 1782 he was Colonel of the 20th Foot. He became a Lieutenant-General in 1777 and was Colonel of the 12th Dragoons from 1782.
